Health insurance is a huge issue for spouses going through a
separation or
divorce. A
new study found that about 115,000 women lose their health insurance every year after getting
divorced, and a quarter of those who are dropped from their former husband’s employer-based health insurance are still uninsured six months after getting
divorced. Many couples delay obtaining a
divorce for this reason alone. But with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, with the hopes that more people can afford healthcare under the new law, will there be a spike in
divorce rates nationally?
